Groundwork — September Quarter 2026

Groundwork — September Quarter 2026

Edition: September Quarter 2026

Release date: 21 October 2026

The tenders closed. The build began.

Australia's major projects pipeline eased 10 per cent in the September quarter, to 298 active projects, but identified capital held above $240 billion. The bigger shift is where that capital now sits: 92 projects carrying $101 billion are under construction or have awarded their primary contract, up from $66 billion in June, while active procurement fell from 35 projects to 23.

This edition maps where the work moved, sector by sector and state by state. Data centres are now the largest single capital theme, with eight records carrying about $53 billion. It shows you the 23 projects in market right now, the 71 construction starts and investment decisions due in the next 12 months, and the contractors who now hold the subcontract and supply packages.

Written for business development managers who need to know where the money is, who to call, and when to move.

Product Description

Groundwork is Projectory's quarterly major projects intelligence report, built on the Projectory Major Projects List. The September Quarter 2026 edition runs to 33 pages across 12 sections: an executive dashboard, a 12-month trend analysis, sector and regional breakdowns, a full procurement radar of every project in market or approaching tender, a 12-month trigger calendar, a CAPEX scale analysis, nine named commercial signals, and a forward look to the December quarter. All figures are drawn from the September 2026 list and benchmarked against the preceding four quarters.

The quarter the build began.

If you read only the headline this quarter, you would conclude the recovery stalled. The list fell from 331 projects to 298, a drop of 10 per cent. But identified capital held above $240bn, and more telling is where it now sits. In June, 80 projects were either under construction or had awarded their primary contract, carrying $66bn. This quarter it is 92 projects and $101bn, more than four in every 10 identified dollars.

The work did not leave the pipeline. It moved from the tender board to the site. Data centres have become the largest single capital theme, with eight records carrying about $53bn, more than the entire Energy and Utilities sector. And not one resources project is in open procurement this quarter.
